Cameron Wasner
Hello!
I am Cameron Wasner. I am from a small town in Alabama and have a great passion for Costume Design. My career started back in 2015 when I costume designed my first production for my high school’s theatre department using the basic sewing knowledge I was taught by my grandmother. From that moment on, I knew this is what I wanted to do with my life. I have always wanted to be a teacher, but never settled on how till discovering costume design and now I want to share this knowledge and passion to the next generations.
While at the University of Montevallo, I have had the opportunity to work on multiple productions ranging from being a stitcher in the costume shop to helping design full productions and from this was able to learn and develop my costume skills inside and outside the classroom. I have been able to use this knowledge to be a guest artist back at my high school and start to work in the industry as a Wardrobe Member at Alabama Shakespeare Festival during their larger summer productions.
I have completed 2 undergraduate research projects in my time at Montevallo. The first project “The Importance of Design in The Importance of Being Earnest” allowed me to explore and expand my knowledge of how to be historically accurate to a production’s intended time period while also keeping the actors safe with modern solutions. With my second project “Nature of Natural Dye”, I was able to test common natural dyes to see if they are reliable eco friendly solutions for fabric in a theatrical setting. Both projects were conducted under Emily Gill, the Associate Professor of Theatre at the University of Montevallo.
My time at Montevallo has taught me that I must continue learning and gaining knowledge of theatre.
